I never drive with trucks behind or beside me.  I know what can happen

I’d never be able to drive anywhere if I followed that rule. Besides, the truck drivers are usually more attentive than car drivers, at least.

Kudos to Herr Porsche for watching his mirrors. In Germany, when you get a license, they massively harp on constantly scanning your mirrors because of speed differences between cars on the Autobahn.

Also, anarchy lane splitting is illegal, but that’s a topic for another day.

Perhaps, but there are a whole lot of minimally qualified newbie truckers on the roads these days, way more than in years past.

You never know what’s going to snuff out your pleasant life in the next instant. Good reminder I need to get working my on will.

I’ve had that happen before. Traffic just stopped for two trucks battling it out up a hill, like they do, all the time. It stopped me right on the other side of another hill, and a truck was behind me. It’s terrifying watching the truck sliding through the grass beside you.

Every time I slow down on the highway, or any road, I check my rearview mirror. And then leave enough room up front to react if necessary.

Limit your risk exposure.  Try not to share lanes with them or drive beside them.

What the fuck was that truck driver doing?

Big rig drivers of the past used to be a cut above everyone else.

But these days, they’re often just as shit and reckless as everyone else.

Truck drivers are usually better IMO, but it’s way more dangerous when they aren’t. When I’m passing I try to get clear quickly.

Yes, but in the meantime, in California, motorcycles pop up out of nowhere. There was a lane splitting fatality just a day or two ago near here.

Yeah, we experienced that. It was definitely something new. With lane splitting being legal, I suppose it’s the car driver’s fault if you change lanes and hit a motorcycle. Those splitting bikes can really get buried in your blind spot, too.

yep, you gotta drive for everybody else around you too because 20% are just goofs at any point in time...  Really no excuse for that truck - he’s up higher than everybody else and should be able to see better than everybody else...

How long have you been driving?

This was easily avoided by staying in lane

The move fast, popping in and out of everyone’s blind spot. I doubt they’d hold the car responsible. I’ll ask my CHP buddy about that one and tell you what he says.

Oh absolutely. I get panic attacks when people in my area suffer “Big truck syndrome”. Th ey will literally get alongside a truck and then just......chill there. Like halfway through the pass they stop to marvel at it like “WOWIE ZOWIE DATS A BIG TRUCK RIGHT DERE. YES. YES THIS IS A BIIIIIG TRUCK. WOW”

I don’t honk often, but I have started to honk at this behavior.

Good on that Porsche for watching his mirrors and getting out of the way!
